Canaan Lane Primary School opened in 2022, providing much needed accommodation for primary school and early years spaces in the Morningside area of Edinburgh. The school is growing incrementally, and when full, will have capacity for 420 primary pupils from Primary 1 to Primary 7 and an Early Learning & Childcare facility for 80 early years spaces.
Our indoor spaces
Canaan Lane Primary school is housed in two separate buildings, located closely on one campus. Our junior school which hosts our Early Learning & Childcare, P1, P2, P3 and P4 classes; and our senior school which accommodates our P5, P6 and P7 classes.
Both buildings are two storey and include dedicated open plan classroom spaces, science rooms, flexible teaching spaces, a dining hall, PE hall, library, meeting room, medical room, kitchen and a number of offices.
Inside our junior school
The ground floor rooms are large open plan areas which allow learners freedom to move about and learn through play. The interior design and furniture provide a warm and comfortable environment and the playrooms have direct access to the outdoor play space, making it easy for learners to transition from indoor to outdoor learning.
The first floor classrooms are paired around flexi-spaces that give the opportunity for learners to work across the spaces and work collaboratively in groups. The library space creates a hub for our first level year groups and connects to the atrium staircase which provides a social, presentation and inspirational space with attractive views to mature trees and the outdoor play area.
Inside our senior school
Our P5-7 learners move across the playground and into the senior school. It has similar style classrooms, flexible break-out spaces, and tutorial spaces to the junior school but the layout and flexible use of the spaces allows our older learners to work more independently in their learning.
