Enabling Environments

We recognise that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending our learners development. This begins by observing learners and assessing their interests, development and learning, before planning challenging but achievable activities and experiences to extend the learners’ learning.

Our ELC and Primary 1 playrooms are organised to allow learners to explore and learn securely and safely. There are areas where learners can be active, be creative, be imaginative and calm. The rooms are set up for learners to find and locate equipment and resources independently.

The learners have their own outdoor learning area, part of which is covered to facilitate outdoor learning even when the weather is inclement. The outdoor environment offers opportunities for doing things in different ways and on different scales. It offers learners a chance to explore, use their senses and be physically active and exuberant. We plan play based activities and resources for learners to access outdoors that help the learners to develop in all areas of the curriculum.
