We recognise that children learn and develop in different ways and at different rates. We value all areas of learning and development equally and understand that they are interconnected.
Observation, assessment and planning
The Early Level curriculum is flexible and can therefore respond to the needs, achievements and interests of the learners. We make regular assessments of learners’ learning and we use this information to ensure that future planning reflects identified needs. Assessment mainly takes the form of observation by staff. These observations are recorded and used to inform next steps.
In the first few weeks of Primary 1, a Baseline Assessment is completed with all learners. In the final term of Primary 1, a judgement of each learner’s level of development is recorded against the Early Level Benchmarks.
